Festivals of the World Series – Yeouido Cherry Blossom Festival (Part 6)
Yeouido is a picturesque park in South Korea. Situated in the city of Seoul, it has gained prominence for the marvellous cherry blossoms during spring. The beautiful park is adorned every year with vibrant coloured cherry flowers and is a major tourist attraction. The Yeouido Cherry Blossom Festival is celebrated specially to experience the spectacular flowering of the awesome cherry trees.
When is Yeouido Cherry Blossom Festival held?
The spring flowers bloom in the middle of April every year. The park with approximately 1700 Cherry trees flourishes with different types of flowers, the forsythias and the azaleas in beaming colours. It is at this time the festival is celebrated with full vigour and zeal. The trees are almost 3 to 4 decades old and spread across an area of about 6 kilometers.
The Stunning Extravaganza in Yeouido Cherry Blossom Festival
During the festival, the entire area of the park is transformed into a grand celebration with an incredible display of fireworks, lively open-air street performances and splendid photo exhibitions along with the rich fragrances of the cherry blossoms. Intricate decorations of flowers adorn the place, much to the delight of the visitors.
As the breeze whizzes past the numerous lines of trees, the ground is beautified with the shower of magnificent flowers with ravishing colours. The environment is elevated to a heavenly and divine atmosphere. The exclusive charm and elegance of the place create an appealing experience for the audience to immerse into its alluring beauty.
The park is opened for all visitors at this time of the year and the entry fee is free. The vehicles are permitted to have limited access to the streets near to the park so that the visitors can roam freely and indulge themselves in the gorgeous surroundings. The streets present a dazzling spectacle with varied Korean street foods, entertainers and performers and numerous stuffed animals.
In the evenings the park and the area around it are illuminated with colourful lights. It is a pleasing experience to stroll across the area glimmering with the radiant glows. It is not only the tourists but the locals also flock in large numbers, a tranquil escapade from their daily chores of life. The serenity and calmness of the place tranquilize the mind and relieve the brain from the tensions and anxieties of life.
