7 Diwali Party Decoration Ideas for fun-filled moments

Diwali, the Festival of Lights, is an auspicious festival celebrated in India with great fun and festivity. Majority of the households in India bloom with activities, starting from cooking delicious dishes and sweets, decorating their homes with colorful lights, lanterns, and many more decor items. Entire India glows in brightness, filling the lives of people with happiness and joy. This week India celebrates Diwali and I felt like sharing some interesting Diwali party decoration ideas which can enlighten you and spark your brains for adorning your houses.

Artistic Diyas (earthen lamps)

Diyas or earthen lamps are very popular in Diwali and are one of the best Diwali party decoration party ideas. You can either buy some artistic colourful Diyas from the shops. Or you can paint some of your own and add some glitters to it for that added extra effect. Gluing some mirrors is also a great option. Make sure you have different colored paints in your house. Buy some sparkling decor items for adding to the beauty.

Paper lanterns

Lanterns magnify the beauty of the entire house with their myriad colors. You can create them on your own by checking some of the Youtube Videos. Or you can easily purchase from the market. They are available in bold colors and can be hung anywhere inside the house to create that sparkling effect. You can even paint the lanterns with various patterns and artworks. One of the best Diwali party decoration ideas for you.

Marigold streamers

During Diwali, marigold streamers are widely available in the market. Orange and yellow marigolds adorn the market. Marigolds are considered holy and auspicious in Indian festivals. They are offered to the gods and goddesses during any religious festivals and ceremonies. Traditionally they are believed to bring in prosperity and good luck. You can prepare the streamers on your own by purchasing only the flowers from the shops. Hang the streamers near the door at the entrance. You can hang them also at each of the doors and windows inside your house.

Flower rangolis or patterns

Rangolis can be found in almost every house during Diwali. Flower rangolis modify the aesthetic beauty of the house. Check for some nice patterns on the internet and create them on the floors. You can add some Diyas to it too. Pick up different colored flowers of which marigolds and roses are musts. Since it’s autumn now, you can check for the seasonal flowers also. The flower rangolis can be created near the entrance, near the worship area inside the house, or at the balconies.

Floating flowers

Floating flowers are one of the most beautiful Diwali party decoration ideas. It’s better to have a terracotta urn for it or you can buy any other decorative urn. If you love painting and artwork, then you can prepare an earthen urn, color, and decorate. Fill the urn with water. Float the flower petals on the water. But different types of colorful flowers.

Candles

Buy small tea light candles. Place them on glass candle holders with beautiful motifs. It’s good to buy the holders. If you want to create a DIY holder, that also you can do but that may be a bit time-consuming. When you buy the candles, check for different colors. Other than tea light candles, you can also buy normal candles in different shapes and sizes.

String of good wishes

It’s a tradition and custom to tie strings with good wishes for Diwali. You can prepare some DIY strings too with silk clothes and stitch some pattern or quote the word “Diwali”. Besides you can paint some Diyas onto the clothes. Else, if you do not wish to create any, buy from the shops. Tie them together and hang them at different places in the house, especially at the entrance.

Hope you liked the ideas. Decorate your house, welcome the guests, and enjoy a very happy and prosperous Diwali. Happy Diwali !!

  • I like all these artful candle-holders and lights a lot – they are so pretty. The other decoration is a bit too much for me – I guess it’s a European thing 😉
