The Call of the Wild
The Call of the Wild (2020, 1h 40m) English – Based on a novel, it is one of the newest and best kids' movies, even for adults too. Star attraction of the movie is a dog named Buck that's stolen and placed in a new world. After being part of a dog-sledge to deliver mails (the movie is set in the late 19th century), his wild journey flourishes. From being a fresher, Buck becomes the leader of the pack and wins the confidence of others. Yet, he envisions that his call is beyond the pack and into the wild.

Queen of Katwe
Queen of Katwe (2016, 2h 4m) English, Luganda – Set in the backdrop of Katwe, a slum of Kampala, Uganda, the movie tells the story of Phiona Mutesi. The biographical sketch takes you through the poverty-ridden, illiterate Phiona's daily life and her family. Ever since meeting with Katende who coaches kids in the locality to play chess, her life changes dramatically. From a maize seller to leading the Uganda team at the Chess Olympiad in Russia, Phiona's life is inspiring. It is one of the best kids movies for them to watch and be inspired.

Wadjda
Wadjda (2012, 1h 37m) Arabic – 10-year-old Wajdja is a very sprightly child living in a conservative society. Despite the restrictions, she dreams of owning a bicycle with which she wants to beat her friend in a race. A lot is happening in her own family. Her mother's life was changing. Wajdja never gives up the hopes to own a bicycle and does everything she can to realize her dream. It is a simple and enlightening kids' movie to watch.

Salyut-7
Salyut-7 (2017, 2h) Russian – Absence of any children in the movie doesn't make it any less entertaining for kids. The story is based on the real events of the Soyuz T-13 mission of Russia in 1985. Two cosmonauts – Vladimir Vdovichenkov and Pavel Derevyanko – go to space to retrieve the space station. On a crucial mission, they have to save not just the ill-fated Salyut 7, but Russian pride too. Even if you are not interested in astrophysics, you are sure to be enlightening by this thrilling movie.

Eddie the Eagle
Eddie the Eagle (2016, 1h 46m) English – Based on true events, the movie is on Eddie who aspires to partake in Olympics event. The childhood of Eddie is fast-forwarded in the movie. It is all about his preparation for the Winter Olympics 1988. To be a ski jumping champion he goes to Germany from Britain for training. Winter Olympics in Calgary is not far away and the expertise of Bronson is the only ray of hope for him. Determination, handwork and persistence of Eddie make it a totally worth watching kids' movie.

Akeelah and the Bee
Akeelah and the Bee (2006 1h 52m) English – Although an old movie, the theme in the movie is ever so relevant in any era. 11-year-old Akeelah has a special knack to recollect and spell words. Her school Principal wants her to participate in the National Spelling Bee competition against her wish. Dr Joshua offers to train her despite her unwillingness and attitude issues initially. Her performance in district level attempt prompts her to change her attitude and instils in her a passion to excel. Having got the techniques and basics from the coach, now it is all up to Akeelah to focus on the work.

The World of Us
The World of Us (2016, 1h 35m) Korean – Lonely Sun and new girl Jia form a beautiful bond. They have a lot of secrets to share and spend time with each other a lot. Before too long, however, the connection turns sore much to the dismay of Sun. Jia being mocked at, jealousy-filled competitions among kids, sibling bond and the family backgrounds take the story forward. The emotional waves and friendship among the classmates swinging back and forth are well-paced and presented.

The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind
The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind (2019, 1h 53m) English, Chichewa – Set in a simple, rural village of in Kasungu, Malawi, the story revolves around William Kamkwamba, a schoolboy. William is keen on handling and repairing junk electronic gadgets in and around his place. His hopes of studying are dashed when he is ousted from the school for not paying the fee. Yet, he finds a loophole to find his way back in and learns about dynamo and its functions. His passion and discovery change his own life and that of his village. The real-life story of William is one of the best kids' movies to watch.

Have a Song on Your Lips
Have a Song on Your Lips (2015 2h 12m) Japanese – Yuri Kashiwagi returns to her old school as a substitute music teacher. Being beautiful and talented, Yuri soon turns heads on the campus, especially that of boys'. She has to prepare the school choir for a national-level contest and welcomes even boys to join in. Strict, serious and straightforward, Yuri has a past story that changed her life as a musician. Her life is to be retransformed, so are the lives of her students.

Amma Kanakku
Amma Kanakku (2016, 1h 49m) Tamil – A remake of the Hindi movie Nil Battey Sannata (2016), it is an enlightening story of a mother-daughter duo. The widowed, high school dropout Shanti has to toil hard to provide a better life for her daughter. However, her daughter Abhinaya is not interested in studies. She is fine to be a servant like her mother. Shanti goes on to enrol herself to study with an aim to motivate and mentor her daughter. It is remade into Malayalam in 2017.
