Key facts about Stamford
Stamford is a city situated in the state of Connecticut in the US. If you are staying in New York or New Jersey then it's an easy drive to this town. A perfect way to relax and spend some time in solitude and with some beautiful lush greenery in the downtown area. From a business importance perspective, it's quite active in the state. There are about 4 Fortune 500 companies existing in the city along with several Corporate offices. Nevertheless, it's perfect for a one day trip or a weekend getaway with family and friends. You can even stay overnight in a hotel, there are a lot many in the city comfortable and highly rated.
Lets now talk about the places of visit in Stamford – the key attractions.
Cove Island Park
Who doesn't like to stroll around a park with a prevailing green environment and sparkling clear waters? You have to drive down, take a cab or bus to Weed Avenue for entering the park. It is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Stamford and popular too. Forming almost a circular path, you will love walking across the trails around the waterway. The stones at the banks enhance the beauty of the breathtaking landscape. Children can enjoy the park as you witness the clear blue sky above you and the freshness of the breeze around you. If you are interested in biking, there is a cycling trail too. Few people often come to the park for their outdoor walk and exercise; certainly a refreshing experience.
Interestingly the park is also the residence of about 287 species of birds. Hence, bird watchers, I bet you will spend a lovely time watching the birds in their habitat and listening to their melodious chirping. You will find few anglers sitting across the shores, waiting for their lucky catch of the day. Spread across an area of 83 acres of land, Cove Island Park is a delight to spend a relaxed time – swimming, walking, playing, rollerskating, reading a book and enjoying nature's beauty.

First Presbyterian Church
The church was just adjacent to the place I stayed in Stamford. The famous American architect, Wallace Harrison, is to be credited for ideating this wonderful masterpiece. Popularly known among the locals as Fish Church, it is one of the intriguing places to visit in Stamford. Resembling almost the shape of a fish, it was constructed in 1958. The interiors still marvel with its stained glasses and intricate glass carvings.
The key attractions of the church are the huge Visser-Rowland pipe organ and the Massive Memorial tower. The 260 feet tower hosts a carillon with 56 bells. The remarkable architectural design in the interior walls of the church speaks about the tales of crucifixion and resurrection. You will also find a wooden cross, 10 metres tall in front of the pipe organ.

The Bedford Street
One of the most happening places to visit in Stamford, full of entertainment and fun. It was our favourite place to hang out during the weekends. Watching movies, shopping from our favourite brands, dining out, gulping on the delicious ice creams – Bedford Street has everything you want at your heart's desire. Cuisines from different countries spread across a delectable aroma throughout the area. Hop into the Avon theatre for some movie time. Go for a leisure walk along Latham Park or sit at the benches to relax while enjoying a few scoops of ice-cream.
Just near to the Bedford Street, you can walk along to the Stamford Town Center. Its a shopping mall and frequented by many visitors. The mall has a whole list of shops and eateries too, you can find grocery items, clothes, kids playthings etc.
The Ferguson Library
I think I went almost 3 to 4 days a week into the library; picking up multiple books and videos. Its a public library, visited by many starting from kids, young and to old. The authorities organize multiple workshops, seminars and discussions for people of different ages. Many a time you can find school children queuing up near the library for some special shows for the kids. The structure o the building is simple yet elegant; one of the most ethnic places to visit in Stamford.
Established in 1910 and still standing tall and erect, the Ferguson library to me is an iconic building in the city. You can attend various reviews and discussions on books from various genres. The book store of the library is just massive, never to leave you disappointed on the type of book you want to read. Besides, there are magazines, reference materials for academics and even multi-media files for you to access.

Stamford Museum and Nature Center
Located at Scofieldtown Road, is the Stamford Museum and Nature Center. You can visit the museum any time of the year; the exhibits are on display for the visitors. The center has many things to offer and is one of the popular places to visit in Stamford. There are artworks, things created out of recycled materials and farming accessories. The best part of the place is its collection of wonderfully carved marble statues. You can find them adorning the hilltop garden of the center. It creates an astounding view at the backdrop of Lake Laurel.
The greenery around is a residence for many birds; an ideal destination for bird watchers. You can enjoy walking along the neat trails while rejuvenating your soul with the soothing breeze and enjoying the sounds of the flowing stream waters. Kids will not be disappointed as there is a playground for them as well. You can feel the effect of being present in a farmhouse at the Heckscher Farm. The farm is owned by the center and you can spend some fun time with your kids and the farm animals and birds. Lastly do not miss visiting the gift shop for picking up some souvenirs with you.

The Palace Theatre
For music, art and film lovers, the Palace Theatre is one such amazing places to visit in Stamford. It has two venues, one at the Atlantic Street and the other at the Rich Forum. Both of them hosts a variety song and dance recitals, plays and acts and even music concerts. If you have to select between the two, I suggest you visit the one at the Atlantic Street. Its the oldest, established in 1927 and has a huge seating capacity of about 1500+ seats.
You can watch exhibitions organized by eminent artists and painters. Since I am an avid lover of theatres, I did not miss watching the live shows. The facilities and the technology are well advanced and you will just love listening to the sound and music.
Well there are many more astonishing places to visit in Stamford. If you stay for two to three days too, I swear you wont feel bored. As for me, I am biased lover of the place due to my memorable association with this beautiful city, “Stamford”.

Thanks for the great story about Stamford. I lived there twice, the first time for only about 5 years, but the second for 21! It is just as lovely as you describe. It was hard for me to leave when I moved away a few years ago. You’ve done a nice job picking out great places to highlight – and of course, there are also the terrific restaurants – of almost EVERY cuisine….
