Throughout the year, tourists visit in large numbers in Kerala especially to spend few days or nights in the heart of the backwaters. Staying in houseboats is preferred by many. You can engulf into the serene and tranquil nature, accompanied by modern amenities of kitchen, luxurious rooms and delectable food. The best places to stay in houseboats are the backwaters of Alappuzha, Vembanad (Kumarakom) and Kollam. Colloquially a houseboat in Kerala is known as Kettuvallam.

Residing in the eastern part of India, Sunderbans has always been my favourite tourist destination. Covered by the dense mangrove forests and entertained by its exotic flora and fauna, a place is an alluring place or wildlife admirers. And what can be more thrilling than staying in a houseboat to experience the natural ecstasies of the forest? Sunderbans is now hosting the world’s largest wildlife safari houseboat. No doubt it is now in my list of astounding houseboat destinations in India. The houseboats are luxurious and comfortable to stay overnight, witnessing the mysterious chill of the forest night.

Dal Lake, Srinagar

Dal Lake is one of the mesmerizing and mind-blowing houseboat destinations in India. Encapsulated by the mighty Himalayas, the lake is an epitome of beauty. And staying overnight in a houseboat on the dazzling lake waters is heavenly. Colloquially, the houseboats are termed as shikhara. They are all made of wood but stuffed with all the modern amenities you need for a comfortable and memorable stay.     I heard about houseboat in Kerala, but never go there yet. Houseboat is a very popular recreational activity and offers an appealing and rewarding outdoor experience. I heard also that houseboat are available in a variety of shapes and sizes. I sit true?
