August Movies on the 70th National Film Awards

August movies list is packed with award winning entries. The 70th National Film Awards announced the best of the films and artists from Indian film industry. Besides the best film and actor awards, the crew awards were also given for significant contributions. Many of such performances are credited in the August movies list.

Aattam

A team of drama artists stay for a night at a resort to celebrate one of their shows. Their team consist of 12 men and Anjali, the only female artist. During the night at the resort, someone groped Anjali and the incident impacted the whole team. Vinay, who loves Anjali, after coming to know what transpired, eggs on others to discuss about the issue. After much deliberation they almost conclude, it was the new comer Hari who committed the act. Before they could oust him from the group, Hari comes up with a huge surprise for each of them. The real play begins there. The intriguing story is one of the musts to be in the August movies list.

Kantara

Set in a 1990s village in Karnataka, the story is deeply intertwined with a local folklore and ardent beliefs of people. Panjuruli Deiva is a deity who has made a contract with an ancient King. The King and his descendants are to follow the contract. Bhoota Kola performer is a spokesperson of  Panjuruli. Shiva’s father was a Bhoota Kola performer until he went missing mysteriously in the forest. Shiva never had an inclination towards becoming a performer until he was possessed by Panjuruli. If you are yet to watch it, make sure to include Kantara in the August movies list.

Kutch Express

The story revolves around a group of women in a village in Ahmedabad. Despite the problems in their respective households, they find joy at a local, secret gathering called Sisoti. Among all the women who gather, Monghi is the only one lucky to be living a problem-free married life. She has been a happy and contented wife for more than 20 years. Dharmesh, her husband is a popular man in the village thanks to his initiative to bring a museum in the town. Later, she realizes she is considered an outdated wife by her husband who has an affair with his colleague, Mamta. Rest of the story unravels Monghi’s discovery of herself.

Emuthi Puthi

Teenager Joon decides to run away from home but with her grandma who loves fish and is a bit eccentric. It is going to be a topsy-turvy journey for them. While the police team chases them, they have to be on the move albeit changing their plans every now and then.

Vaalvi

In view of living together with Devika, Aniket is planning a suicide trap with his wife Avani. The whole episode is masterminded by Devika. Aniket thinks, perfect murder is the “perfect suicide”. He does commit the crime but beginning of the twist happens in the form of the psychiatrist whom Avani was consulting.

Gulmohar

A seemingly well-knit Batra family consists of Kusum Batra, her son Arun and his wife Indira. They have a daughter, Amrita and a son, Aditya whose wife is Divya. Gulmohar is the manor built by Kusum’s diseased husband for the whole family so that everyone stays together. Due to several reasons, Gulmohar is to be sold. All the friends and family gather together before that happens. A couple of announcements by Kusum at the party sets off a chain of unpleasant revelations in the family.

Thiruchitrambalam

Even when it comes to proposing someone, she helps him with tips. His mundane, hapless life gets a twist after his grandpa tells him to rethink about his friendship with Shobana.

Fouja

Born in a Haryanvi family that has produced many soldiers for the country, Fouja aspires to follow the tradition by joining the Indian army. But when he fails to do so, he hopes for accomplishing his dream by making his son join the army albeit his disinterest in doing so. 

Uunchai

Cast: Amitabh Bachan, Anupam Kher and others

Award: Best Direction and Best Supporting Actress Encouraged by Amit, three close friends, all of them senior citizens decide to climb the Everest. The decision was prompted by their recently diseased close friend, Bhupen who always dreamed of climbing the Everest. Given their age and family, the trip of the trio is not a straightforward one.
