That is when, M springs in the surprise. Everyone is taken aback by the sudden decision of M to be the caregiver of his grandmother. Amah herself is skeptical about his motives. In fact, M does have a not-so-noble plan. M is a carefree young man who looks forward to being rich quickly by inheriting big in life. His cousin’s life has taught him it is possible. Two individuals from two different generations making efforts to get along with each other sets the tone of the story. Despite the title, it is a remarkably insightful family drama good enough to be in your Foreign Language July movies list.

The plot is set in a cold and quiet Icelandic village. Kristófer is not just a retired restaurateur, he is retired physically and emotionally too. A turning point in his life hits when he receives a friend request from one Miko. In his attempt to recollect Miko in his life, the plot moves back in time. Miko is a long-lost love of Kristófer when they were residing in London. He learns now that Miko lives in Hiroshima, Japan. The urge to see her again is enkindled in him. However, all the odds are against him. COVID-19 pandemic has affected his business badly. As if that is not enough, his doctor informs him, he is diagnosed with early signs of Alzheimer’s. The story is based on the Icelandic best-selling novel Touch, by Ólafur Jóhann Ólafsson. It is one of the touching family movies you can include in your July movies list.

However, Akita is still active and is attending his classes. He makes sure to visit Haruna in the hospital every day. He is her only visitor and gradually becomes her window to the world outside. Her mother is the head nurse in the same hospital, from whom Akita learns what happened to Haruna’s father. She has beautiful wishes for Akita and his long life. What she doesn’t know is Akita’s days are numbered too. initially what is drawing them closer is their love for painting. Supposed to be a depressing plot, but it is beautifully directed and narrated.

Pat and Angie are old, well-settled and an enviously looked at couple in their neighborhood. Although a lesbian couple, even their friends and family respect and accept them. Pat is the more extrovert one who handles most of the family affairs. In a celebration where family members are invited, most of Angie’s relatives are present. Pat is seen being considerate towards them even in matters of cash. Even as everything seems to be well, Angie dies unexpectedly leaving behind Pat. A premature death meant, their assets are all in Angie’s name and all of a sudden Pat finds herself in a precarious condition. Rest of the plot throws light on the dramatic changes in the living conditions of Pat. She is now at the mercy of Angie’s family members who naturally inherits their assets including the house. Earlier, she was kind to these members and now her kindness is reciprocated with meanness.
