The story is narrated through the voice of Numa Turcatti, one of the plane crash survivors. On October 13, 1872, a Uruguayan plane crashed into the Andes Mountains. There were 40 passengers and five crew members on board. Like Numa, most were young and part of a local rugby team. Lost and deserted, the survivors are the only beings alien in the otherwise calm and freezing mountain range. A tragedy or a miracle? We have to return to the past, knowing the past is what changes the most. From a happy past, they end up in an almost hopeless present. The survivors need to be more than strong to live amidst the dead bodies of loved ones and have little hope for them to live. The Uruguayan rugby team’s plane crash in 1972 inspired the film. It is certainly one of the most exciting January movies to watch.
