7 Best Ideas for Celebrating Christmas at Home
Christmas means a lot of things to us. ‘Holiday', ‘Santa', ‘carols', ‘shopping and gifts', ‘party and music', ‘friends and family', ‘food' and ‘outing' are some of the words that come to our mind the instant we think of Christmas. This year, however, it is a lot different. With the new normal we may not be able to have outdoor celebrations or may not be able to meet all our friends and relatives. However, lowering down the scale of the celebration cannot dampen the spirit of celebrations. Christmas is all about the vibe of the season and we can well experience it from the warmth and cosy comfort of our home. All we need is a little creativity and planning and here am I presenting best ideas for celebrating Christmas at home.
Let's have a look at things we can do for a Christmas at home
Plan a Home-cooked elaborate meal
A good meal does not only satisfy the stomach but also the soul. And when it comes to eating with family, it definitely becomes memorable. We are so busy with our daily chores and office work that a day with family and at home is worth celebrating. You can have a great spread of breakfast or dinner comprising of the family favourites or traditional Christmas dishes. Don't forget good beverages. Brew up a magical cocktail or mocktail and/or a good hot chocolate with marshmallows to add a spark. One of the best ideas for celebrating Christmas at home.

Decorate the house with Christmassy elements
Christmas does have specific elements of décor associated with it. A decorated Christmas tree is a must. Bells, tinsel garlands, snowmen, stars, snowflakes, old family photos, cranberries, pinecones and numerous other ornaments and fairy lights are essential elements for decorating the Christmas tree. Decorate your home with as many lights and candles as possible. Scented candles work wonders. Use more colours like red and green and look for Christmassy prints for curtains, bed linens and tableware. Décor elements like Christmas wreaths, socks, putz houses, and Santa Claus statue on a carriage drawn by reindeers are a must. Make a Christmas crib if possible. Involve the children. It is really fun and one of the best ideas for celebrating Christmas at home. The nativity scene exhibits the birth of Jesus and that's what we are celebrating. So there must be a special corner for it.

Fill up the house with music
Christmas carols automatically bring the Christmas vibes. Download the required karaoke and prepare a playlist from before. Let there be music from the beginning of the day. It is going to set the mood for the entire family to sing and dance.
Bake a cake and/or cookies
I feel Christmas is incomplete without a plum cake and gingerbread cookies. Bake them at home. Ask the children to help. Christmas cake or cookies decoration and frosting are such fun that they definitely will love to help you. The aroma of freshly baked cookies at home will uplift the spirits readily.

Play the Santa or call the Santa
Someone can play the role of our beloved Santa Claus to amuse the children. Why only children? I still believe in Santa Claus and feel so happy seeing a living Santa. Well, Saint Nick is adorable. Engage the kids in singing hymns and carols and read out Christmas stories to them. Even a Christmas quiz will be interesting. For 2020, I have a special plan. Give your kids red or white masks and ask them to make it Christmassy. Well, masks are the constants of the new normal. So let's have masks that suit the season. You may even call the Santa this year through various apps. They are mostly paid services by various companies where you can book a video call session with Santa Claus for your kids.

Plan a Virtual Party
There's no reason to feel sad because you can't go out and meet your friends. Even if we have to avoid large gatherings this year we can always have a blast through video calling. Organize a virtual party. Have dress codes. Of course, you already have music. Dress your best. Don't forget the colour red. Have a blast!!

Avail online gifting and donations
Christmas and gifting are inseparable. The pandemic can't stop you from gifting your loved ones on Christmas. Use online gifting platforms or shopping sites. Book gifts for your friends and family members online and get those delivered to their door steps. It is a practice for many to donate during Christmas. A lot of people prefer visiting orphanages or old age homes on Christmas to offer them the day's lunch and/or new clothes. This year you are not missing out the chance of serving others. You can donate online. There are numerous trustable organizations where you can donate. Giving is a two-fold blessing. Please donate this Christmas for the needy, as you have always done every year.

The new normal cannot stop us from having fun and enjoying and practicing our age old traditions. With a little planning, caution, patience and internet, we will definitely have a different but ravishing and safe Christmas. Order items online rather than rushing to the market.
Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas !!
