Relaxing at the banks of a pristine lake entangles the human mind and soul with surreal calmness. India's natural vividness comprises numerous spectacular and gorgeous lakes, much to the awe of domestic and international travellers. Some are natural whereas others are artificial or man-made. Irrespective of their creation, they are beauty is unparalleled serving the habitat of many varieties of bird and animal species. My effort is to acquaint my readers with 8 such incredible lakes in India; diversified in their enigmatic charm.
Dal Lake, Kashmir
Lapped within an exquisite cover of sensational aura, Dal Lake is one of the most beautiful lakes in India. The ambience, the feel and the spirit wrapped in it are unparalleled. Strolling across the banks or riding on a boat, its spectacular extravaganza showers in a peaceful blessing on the visitors.
The lake has rightfully earned the name of “Jewel of Srinagar”, a tribute to its mystic views and scenic landscape. Spreading across a whooping area of about 22 square km, it is a popular tourist destination for many travel enthusiasts.

Lake Pichola in Udaipur, Rajasthan
Tranquillity and serenity, intertwined in a single canvas. That's how I can describe the mesmerizing beauty of Lake Pichola of Udaipur in the state of Rajasthan. Its picturesque grandeur has been enticing several producers and directors of the Indian film industry; a place for shooting exclusive movie acts and songs.
Located at the backdrop of the majestic Aravalli mountain ranges, the lake offers an enchanting experience. The reflection of the hills on the sparkling waters; the sun rays glittering on it transform the place into a world of divinity.

Vembanad Lake, Kerala
Compared to the other lakes in India, Vembanad Lake is the longest spanning across a length of approximately 96.5 km. The lake is the source of livelihood for many in the adjacent villages. Farmers depend largely on the waters for their irrigation and cultivation activities.
The lake has a unique diversified landscape comprising of marshy lands, backwaters, and lagoons. It is a popular location for bird-watching being inhabited by different local and migratory birds.
Changu Lake, Sikkim
Impeccable beauty, astounding environment, and gorgeous ambience. Changu Lake in Sikkim has in its store all for a memorable experience. It is one of the stunning lakes in India, located amid the lofty Himalayan mountain ranges.
You can visit the lake at any time in the year. In summers the gleaming waters sparkle with the golden rays of the sun and the lush greenery adorning its banks. In the winters, it remains partially frozen presenting a different experience altogether.

Hussain Sagar Lake, Hyderabad
Looking for spending a day full of fun with family and friends? Hussain Sagar Lake is the ideal place for you. It is one of the largest freshwater artificial lakes in India. The lake is especially popular among locals and the tourists as a prominent picnic spot.
The place is seldom empty, fluttering with people around throughout the day. You can spend a day full of entertainment and fun, basking along with the mystic scenery.

Chilika Lake, Odisha
Dolphin lovers and bird watchers can spend a pleasurable time riding on a boat on the Chilika Lake waters in the state of Odisha. It is ranked as second among the brackish water lagoons in the world. Among the coastal lakes in India, Chilika is the largest.
Migratory birds, enchanting landscape and its dazzling charm transform the human minds into a state of trance. The rare and endangered Irrawaddy dolphins are its treasure. You can observe the birds mostly resting on the Nalabana island. The other island along its banks is Breakfast Island.

Bhimtal Lake, Uttarakhand
Bhimtal Lake personifies the alluring beauty of Uttarakhand, the valley of flowers. It is one of the largest among the numerous lakes in India. The lake is present almost at the centre of the city, an iconic landmark. Locals prefer spending their weekends at the lake premises.

Suraj Tal Lake, Himachal Pradesh
Ranked as third among the highest lakes in India, Suraj Tal is considered a sacred and divine lake. The meaning of the name as translated from the colloquial language implies the Lake of the Sun God. The lake waters originate from the streams and glaciers from the Bara-lacha-la pass.
The blue turquoise waters of the lake are a pleasure to watch. Located at the breathtaking Lahaul and Spiti valley in Himachal Pradesh, Surya Tal is an example of celestial beauty. It is a common superstitious belief that if you dip inside the lake waters then you will be relieved of all your sins. Hikers and trekkers camp at the banks of the lake to relax and refresh embracing the scintillating beauty of Mother Nature.
Well, there are many other lakes in India, countless and innumerable. Each has its unique characteristics, worthy of visiting again and again.

My trip to India was definitely one of my favourite adventures. After reading your post, I now need to go back and visit these incredible lakes. The only one I visited was in Jaipur and doesn’t seem to compare to the ones you’ve listed.
