8 Renowned Places to visit in Washington DC, USA

The first country to visit as I stepped out from my motherland India to explore the world was the USA (United States of America). The purpose was work and business, yet I never wasted a single moment in travelling to numerous destinations in the US. Today as I recollect the wonderful memories of my visit, I thought of sharing 8 renowned places to visit in Washington DC in the US; my favourite ones. It is the capital city of the US, wrapped by historical heritage, cultural extravaganza and official significance. The city earned its name from George Washington, the first and phenomenal president of the US.

The White House

The White House is one of the iconic places to visit in Washington DC. It is the resident of the President of the US and his family. The location was suggested by George Washington. The first president to stay in the house was President John Adams. The place is significant since it hosts meetings and dinners between the President of the US and the leaders of the foreign nations in the world. You can opt for self-guided tours with due permission from the office of the Congressman between 6 months and 21 days in advance. Else you can observe the beautiful white coloured building from outside the gate and click some pictures.

The Lincoln Memorial

The Lincoln Memorial constructed as a mark of respect to Abraham Lincoln, one of the greatest presidents of the US. A huge statue of Lincoln is present at the memorial site, one of the stunning places to visit in the US. In 1922, the memorial was inaugurated and opened to the public. A Greek Doric designed temple surrounds the statue of Lincoln. You can visit the memorial 24 hours a day, but it is suggested to visit between 9:30 AM and 11:30 PM.

We were at the White House and they were passing out tickets for spaces still left in the tour. We got in line but there weren’t any left when it was our turn. Maybe we’ll get to visit some day.
