8 Renowned Places to visit in Washington DC, USA
The first country to visit as I stepped out from my motherland India to explore the world was the USA (United States of America). The purpose was work and business, yet I never wasted a single moment in travelling to numerous destinations in the US. Today as I recollect the wonderful memories of my visit, I thought of sharing 8 renowned places to visit in Washington DC in the US; my favourite ones. It is the capital city of the US, wrapped by historical heritage, cultural extravaganza and official significance. The city earned its name from George Washington, the first and phenomenal president of the US.
The White House
The White House is one of the iconic places to visit in Washington DC. It is the resident of the President of the US and his family. The location was suggested by George Washington. The first president to stay in the house was President John Adams. The place is significant since it hosts meetings and dinners between the President of the US and the leaders of the foreign nations in the world. You can opt for self-guided tours with due permission from the office of the Congressman between 6 months and 21 days in advance. Else you can observe the beautiful white coloured building from outside the gate and click some pictures.

The Lincoln Memorial
The Lincoln Memorial constructed as a mark of respect to Abraham Lincoln, one of the greatest presidents of the US. A huge statue of Lincoln is present at the memorial site, one of the stunning places to visit in the US. In 1922, the memorial was inaugurated and opened to the public. A Greek Doric designed temple surrounds the statue of Lincoln. You can visit the memorial 24 hours a day, but it is suggested to visit between 9:30 AM and 11:30 PM.

Washington Monument
The Washington Monument is the landmark of the city, present amid a massive area of land. It is one of the most prominent t places to visit in Washington DC. The monument was established in the 19th century as a tribute to the heroic achievements of George Washington. Standing tall with a height of 550 feet, you can visit it 24 hours a day, but you can not enter the monument. There is a beautiful lush green lawn and park in front of the monument with a sparkling pool of water. You can sit and enjoy the fresh air and feel the historical valour of the place.

United States Capitol
United States Capitol is one of the significant places to visit in Washington DC. The Capitol hosts the sessions of the Senate and the House of Representatives. You can attend the sessions with free passes distributed from the office of the congressmen. For touring the Capitol building, separate passes need to be obtained. The construction of the building started in 1973. The first session commenced in 1800.

National Air and Space Museum
One of the incredible places to visit in the US, the National Air and Space Museum attracts young and old both. You can observe the incredible air and space programs of the US. The various achievements starting from the days when the Wright brothers first flew the aeroplane are present in the museum. The moon and space expeditions of the US are demonstrated inside the museum. You can gain tremendous knowledge of the astronomical journeys and the science behind them. Admission is free, charges are there for attending the shows in certain auditoriums like IMAX.

National Gallery of Art
The National Gallery of art is one of the most popular places to visit in Washington DC. With its wonderful and prestigious art collections, you will be mesmerized to watch its incredible masterpieces. Created and curated by renowned American and European artists, it is considered a premier museum in the world. The key ones among the collections are sculptures and paintings of Da Vinci, Vermeer, El Greco, Henry Moore and many more. The Gallery comprises two buildings and they are connected to each other with a tunnel. On Sundays, you can enjoy the concerts held during the Falls and continues till the spring season.

National Museum of American History
The National Museum of American History stores a massive collection of historical information on the country's evolution through the yesteryears. It is one of the best places to visit in Washington DC. The museum possesses a superb collection of precious gems, stones and minerals with loads of information recorded in them. Then there are replicas of underwater animals and even rare and endangered species. Another speciality of the museum is the human transformation from the ancient ages. So overall a splendid experience about history.

National Cathedral
The sixth largest cathedral in the world and one of the astounding places to visit in Washington DC. I love cathedrals for the divinity and the peaceful atmosphere coupled with the incredible architectural beauty. If you want to witness a blissful environment, you must surely visit the cathedral and twine yourself into the eternal abode. The structure has been designed following the renowned Neo-Gothic architectural style.

Beautiful places to visit. I live close to DC and have been to most of these places. The Lincoln Memorial is one of my favorites monuments in DC.

I would really want to visit the National Air and Space Museum. I have always been fascinated with space exploration and aircraft. To see these things up close would be an experience to treasure.
I love DC. I use to visit all the time. My favorite spots are many of the ones you mention including their restaurants!
I would love to see Washington Monument during the day and especially at night! Must have been so beautiful when it is all lit up.
I haven’t been to DC to sightsee in a long time and we didn’t go to each of these places. So I really would like to see all of these places again with my kids some day. Great list!

Washington has many interesting historical sights. It is an area that I strongly recommend everyone visit at some point.
We were at the White House and they were passing out tickets for spaces still left in the tour. We got in line but there weren’t any left when it was our turn. Maybe we’ll get to visit some day.
Washington DC is on my bucket traveling list – once I do feel safer to travel that is – because both my daughter and I are immunocompromised – at least we are not vaccinated – thanks for that list – blessings
