India celebrates National Tourism Day on 25th January every year. A special day dedicated to all the travel enthusiasts who love to explore numerous destinations in the country and abroad. Also to recognize and realize the immense potential concealed within India when it comes to flora, fauna, historical places, ancient buildings and monuments, and much more. Today I want to share some unique travel experiences in India that you must witness or embark on once in your lifetime.

A Drive between ocean and river – Kundapura in Karnataka

Imagine driving on a road with a serene river stream at one side and a whopping sea beach on another side? Truly a combo of thrilling and tranquil experiences indeed. Eager now about the destination, yes it is at Kundapura in the state of Karnataka. The drive is along the Edapally Panvel highway. On one side of the highway is the Souparnika River and on another side is the Maravanthe beach. It's an offbeat location, less frequented and explored by travelers. One of the unique travel experiences in India to be witnessed is if you love driving amid scenic beauty.

Visit the haunted town of Bhangarh – Alwar in Rajasthan

If you love the thrill and want to etch out the adrenaline, then check out the haunted town of Bhangarh. Situated at Alwar in the state of Rajasthan, the town is famous for its 17th-century old fort. Visiting the town is one of the unique travel experiences in India, a must-try for people who love to experience that eerie feeling. There are spooky tales narrated by the locals around there, truly fascinating. People believe that human souls in the form of ghosts visit the town and mysterious creatures roam around the place. But it is recommended to opt for the place on your bucket list if you are daunted enough to stay in an uncanny surrounding.

Attend the traditional Opium Ceremony – Bishnoi in Rajasthan

Though there is a ban on opium, the Bishnoi village at Jodhpur in Rajasthan celebrates a 1000-year-old traditional opium ceremony. If you are traveling to Rajasthan, then you must not miss watching or being part of the tradition; one of the unique travel experiences in India. The ceremony is also known by the name Amal Sabha. The opium is filtered, soaked, and then offered to Lord Shiva, the mighty God of Hindu mythology. Once the offering is made to the Lord, the opiate is consumed by all from the eldest group member. The objective of the ceremony is to celebrate alliance.

Enjoy the Gravity-Defying Waterfall – Naneghat in Maharashtra

The moment we think of a waterfall, the image of waters gushing down from a height and splashing on the ground, prints in front of us. But you will be astonished to hear about a waterfall at Naneghat in Maharashtra which moves upwards instead of falling down. Simple defying the law of gravity is one of the unique travel experiences in India. The unusual phenomenon occurs mainly during the monsoon seasons when the winds reverse the direction of the falls. Once in your lifetime, you must watch this spectacular view and rejuvenate yourself.

Stay at an Igloo house – Manali in Himachal Pradesh

Think of an igloo and we instantly visualize ones in Finland, Norway, Iceland, or any other country covered with snow. Little do we think that in India also we can stay in an igloo house or hotel for a vacation. Sethan Village in Hamta Valley at Manali in the state of Himachal Pradesh is now a hub for adventure lovers. You can stay in an igloo hut and feel the essence of the snow-covered landscape. Situated at an altitude of 9000 feet, it's truly one of the unique travel experiences in India.
