Taj Chia Kutir Resort & Spa in Darjeeling

I have visited the Darjeeling hills more than ten times, yet I am not bored and this time it was all the more remarkable. It was because of my stay at Taj Chia Kutir which has made this summer vacation extremely special. Perched on the tea-growing hills of Kurseong, inside the famous Makaibari Tea estate, stands this sprawling property. It is the perfect blend of all modern amenities with the serenity of nature. The lush tea gardens, the winding roads of Pankhabari, the surrounding Himalayan hills, the blue sky, and the beautiful flowers create magic.

What makes Taj Chia Kutir special?

Kurseong is a hill town in Darjeeling District, 30 kilometers from Darjeeling, popular since the imperial era for the finest tea gardens. This misty hill station is a popular tourist destination. Besides all this, Taj Chia Kutir is a destination in itself as there are so many things to do inside the property premises. Like every other Taj hotel, even this one is an epitome of luxury, art, amenities, food, and spotless customer service together with the magical location. There are different categories of rooms from ‘Luxury rooms' to ‘Grande rooms' and from 'Villa suites' to ‘Presidential suites'. Gorgeous ‘Chia cottages' are also available in absolute seclusions, in the lap of nature. The hospitality of this place is unparalleled. Let's now have a look at things to do at Taj Chia Kutir.

Bask in the glory of nature

Walk around the vast area in the lap of nature. One can walk on the slithering roads through the tea gardens. There's lots of green around and also a carpet of green grass and dry leaves to walk upon. The continuous chirping of birds rejuvenates the mind. There are watchtowers the view from which are panoramic. The vivid Hydrangea flowers and the colorful prayer flags look marvelous. The surrounding hills are breathtaking. Even if one wants to enjoy nature yet sit indoors and relax, there are numerous balconies and lounges with glass walls to do so. The balcony of any room of Taj Chia Kutir opens to incredible views of tea gardens, mountains, and valleys.

Indulge in Wellness

Nature is healing and indulging in wellness in such a setting is a different experience. The resort has an amazing gym with mountain views, a serene spa, and an indoor swimming pool with views of the mountains. There is an open space for yoga and practicing there in the lap of the Himalayas is blissful. Everything about Taj Chia Kutir is so refreshing. The way the rooms are designed and the kind of art collection the property has, reflect that they are synchronized with the natural environment. Even sipping a hot cup of Darjeeling tea, sitting at the gorgeous Chia Lounge, with a book from their collection, is euphoric.

Enjoy the best of Gourmet treats

Chia Verandah', as the name suggests, is an al-fresco fine dining, serving an extensive international and Asian menu. The focus is also on organic local delicacies. The view from the open verandah is beautiful. One can see the far-off mountains and the tea gardens. ‘Sonargaon' is another fine dining restaurant that serves Eastern Indian Zamindari cuisine and classic dishes tracing back to the British Raj. One can indulge in luxurious and rare alcoholic beverages in the opulent bar, ‘The Glass Bar'. All of these have enchanting views of the beautiful outdoors. Be spoilt for choice with the breakfast buffet served at the property. Taj Chia Kutir is also popular with destination weddings and conferences.

Take a guided tour of the Makaibari Factory

Makaibari Tea Estate is iconic. A guided tour of the factory is interesting and educational as it shows the complex steps involved in the process of preparing the tea leaves for a brew. Makaibari is the world's first organized tea factory, established in 1859. This trip to the tea factory entails a lot of stories from the pages of colonial history. The factory is 500 meters from the entrance of Taj Chia Kutir. The climb is very steep, so the hotel assists one with their car. One can always enjoy the walk though. We have seen tea pluckers walk through the road which passes by the hotel. It is a pleasant and intriguing sight.

How to reach Taj Chia Kutir?

We had driven down to Taj Chia Kutir from Darjeeling this summer. If one wants to visit directly, the nearest airport is Bagdogra Airport which is 35 kilometers away from the property. The most popular railway station is New Jalpaiguri Junction which is also 35 kilometers away. Though winters are chilly, one can visit here throughout the year. The welcoming as well as farewell gesture is magically touching.
