Spring Time April Movies to Watch and Relax
Seasons change. And along with it, our temperaments flutter. A few movies to go with it make it all the more pleasing. When it comes to watching springtime April movies, Little Forest (2018) is my personal favorite. Since it has been featured here a very long time ago, here is another list of April movies to watch. Each of these movies is a mixed bag of emotions to fit in as springtime April movies to watch.

The opening scene of the movie has two shades. The happy one is that of Michelle’s birth and the other one is the death scene of her mother, Theresa. The rest of the story unfolds in Louisville, Kentucky in 1993. A lively hairdresser, Sharon who has a drinking problem gets a wake-up call after reading a news piece on Michelle. Now, five years old, Michelle is diagnosed with Biliary Atresia, and her survival depends on a successful liver transplant. From the day Sharon barges into the funeral service of Theresa, she does everything possible to help and support Mr. Ed and his little girl. You are sure to get goosebumps at Sharon’s, “I got five planes” in a scene. Certainly, it is one of the springtime April movies to watch and be elated. And guess what? It is based on a true story.

The plot set in the 19th century, is on the life of archipelago girl Maja. As a 17-year-old naïve girl, she is forced to marry a fisherman, Janne. The scenic location, frozen land, and Baltic Sea add charm to the epic transformation story of Maja. Daily life struggles of the family on the island of Stormskerry form the base of Maja’s story. Often, Janne would be out at the sea fishing while she took care of the young family.
The long absence of her husband, adverse climate, and even war cause challenging episodes in her life. What makes her resilient and different is the love shown by Janne and their family. As she grows old, she is also awakened by what is happening around her and her existence. Gradually her simplicity and curiosity give way to a strong-willed character. She starts to ask questions and she wonders in what way she is less than a man!
Manjummel Boys

Based on a true incident occurred in 2006 when a group of friends from Manjummel, Kerala toured Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu. Thirteen of these friends are closely knit together. From partying to competing to planning the trip to Kodaikanal on an Onam vacation, the friendship factor shimmers all through the movie. A group of vibrant youth exploring a hilly region like Kodaikanal cannot be but exciting.
The excitement soon reaches a point where they decide to lurk in the restricted areas called Guna Caves. Gradually, the blissful mood is swapped with panic, fear, and bitterness, when Subhash one of them is slipped into a hole. A hole that the British used to call, The Devil’s Kitchen for a deadly reason turns out to be the villain. The rest of the story quite dramatically unwraps even as the rescue mission is on. The locals, the police, the fire force, and the rest of the friends, join hands to do the impossible.

An opening scene that is a bit lengthy yet arresting; a scene where not much is spoken than necessary. Yet, the culinary skills of Eugénie accompanied by others just keep you focused. You begin to wonder what is going on. Almost the entire story unravels inside a country estate in France in 1889. Eugénie is a gifted cook working for Dodin who is an amazing cook himself. Eugénie is assistant to Violette whose young niece Pauline joins them one day. Dodin welcomes the young girl too in their kitchen. Eugénie and Dodin love each other yet there is a boundary. Finally, when Eugénie decides to accept his proposal, a tragedy strikes. Pauline’s culinary aptitude helps Dodin to accept the reality and move on. If you are a foodie, it is one of the springtime April movies you shouldn’t miss.
The Monk and the Gun

Change is coming to the Kingdom of Bhutan in 2006. Instead of a king, now people can choose their leader but they have never lived under a democratic system. The democratic reforms also bring TV and the internet to the country. Strangely many Bhutanese don’t want this change. The epicenter of the mock election is to happen in the town of Ura. Upon hearing the news, a Lama orders a monk to arrange a couple of guns for him.
Meanwhile, an American visitor, Ronald arrives in the city, looking for an antique gun, an American Civil War rifle. With his driver, Benji’s help he finds the gun with Ap Penjor and agrees to buy it for a hefty amount. But, by the time he comes with the money, it is sold to the monk who is looking for guns in exchange for a beetle nut. Mock voting, government officials in Ura, an American guy whom the police are looking for, Ron looking for his gun, and a Lama asking for guns. And the full moon day is looming large too. It is going to be interesting.
