Ramoji Film City – A World of Entertainment

Hyderabad, a city in India dominated by historic sites and monuments, offers one of the most entertaining cine magic and fun-filled experience at Ramoji Film City. Spreading across a whopping area of almost 2000 acres of land, Ramoji Film City has earned a name in the Guinness Book of World Records as hosting the Largest Complex amongst all the World’s Film Studios. It is one of the prominent tourist destinations of Hyderabad, attracting millions of tourists every year from different parts of India and abroad.

The History behind Ramoji Film City

Ramoji Film City was set up in the year 1991 to accommodate about 20 film units in one huge location. Ramoji Rao, the renowned film producer, was instrumental in creating the majestic film city to fulfill his dream of designing a studio similar to Hollywood. The complex was designed by Nitish Roy, a famous art director of Indian cinema. It is believed that the land with hillocks and forests were not disturbed during the construction of the film city. The natural beauty was leveraged to create the phenomenal film sets, the different theme parks, and the various amusement rides.

A Tour Inside the Film City

Ramoji Film City has been magnificently constructed with about 47 sound stages and exotic film sets starting from railway stations, gardens, parks, palaces, replicas of monuments and buildings, streets of London, airports, hospitals and many more. A replica of the popular red coloured London Bus will greet you and pick you up, offering you an entertaining ride inside the film city. The bus will leave you in the heart of the city for you to walk down the streets of the spectacular town.

You will be mesmerized by the wonderful replica of the Texas countryside of the US. As you stroll across the different film sets, you can witness the majestic Eiffel Tower of Paris. Adjacent to the tower is the Pagoda style of Japanese roofed buildings. The key attraction of the film city is the palaces and musical performance from the state of Rajasthan. The prominent among them is the replica of the Amer Palace and Kalbelia dance. You will be transformed into a world of entertainment fun with the rhythmic musical beats and the scintillating dance performances.

Much to the delight of the children, you can board the mini-train for a ride across the Filmy town. You will be transported across the splendid snow-capped mountains, the deserts, mysterious tunnels, and beautiful gardens. After the completion of the trip, you can sit and relax inside the huge lawn to enjoy the greenery around.

What are the Things to do at The Film City?

Ramoji Film City offers ample opportunities for its tourists to enjoy and engage throughout the day. The key things to do at Ramoji Film City are enlisted below:

Best time to visit the Film City

The best time to visit the Ramoji Film City is during the winters between the months of October and February. The weather is comfortable and pleasant allowing a relaxing walk across the town. The summers are very hot in Hyderabad and hence must be avoided.

How to reach the Film City?

If you want to travel by air, the nearest airport is the Hyderabad International Airport from where you can avail of a bus or hire a cab to reach the filmy city. If you are boarding a train from a different city in India, the nearest railway station is at Secunderabad. The station is about 22 km away from the film city, accessed through buses and cabs. If you are staying within the city of Hyderabad, then you can avail of the local transport or hire a cab to reach the film city.

  • Wow, I can’t believe that Ramoji Film City is the biggest film studio in the world! I have never heard of it before but it sounds like India’s version of Disneyland. I would love to visit there someday. Is it possible to see everything that they have to offer in just one day?

    Duh! I contacted them, and they said it’s shut for public due to the pandemic! Kuntala, do you know when will the film City be open for the general public?
